Authorities have identified the man killed in one of two fatal crashes in Folsom last week as Cory Glenn Hakala, 42, of El Dorado Hills.

Hakala was the sole occupant of a vehicle that left the roadway and struck a tree near the intersection of Folsom Boulevard and Iron Point Road just before 4 p.m. on Tuesday, May 27, according to the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office.

Folsom police officers were dispatched to the scene and arrived to find Hakala unconscious and not breathing. Despite immediate life-saving efforts from both officers and emergency personnel with the Folsom Fire Department, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Folsom Police Department confirmed that the cause of the crash remains under investigation. Officials have not yet released any details regarding potential contributing factors such as speed, mechanical failure, or impairment.

Hakala’s death marked the first of two fatal crashes that occurred within a nine-hour span that day in Folsom.

The second, a two-vehicle collision, happened later that night near the intersection of Golf Links Drive and East Natoma Street, approximately five miles from the earlier crash. That incident claimed the life of Braiden David Flynn, a 20-year-old Folsom resident.

Authorities continue to investigate both incidents and encourage anyone with additional information to contact the Folsom Police Department.
