What began as a routine traffic stop for expired registration quickly escalated into a major drug bust, thanks to the alert response of Rancho Cordova Police Department (RCPD) officers.
According to a recent release from the department, RCPD patrol officers conducted a stop on a vehicle displaying registration tags that had not been renewed since 2017. During the stop, officers learned the driver was on searchable probation following a prior conviction for drug sales.
Exercising their legal authority under the driver’s probation conditions, officers conducted a search of the vehicle. Inside, they discovered a large quantity of illegal drugs, including fentanyl, methamphetamine, cocaine, methadone, hallucinogens, and numerous prescription medications. Police said the drugs were packaged in a manner consistent with sales, not personal use.
The suspect was immediately arrested and transported to the Sacramento County Main Jail. He now faces multiple charges related to the possession and intent to sell controlled substances.
RCPD officials praised the officers for their vigilance, calling the arrest an example of proactive policing that helps ensure community safety.
“This is another example of excellent proactive police work by RCPD officers making sure our community stays safe,” the department said in a public statement.
