RANCHO CORDOVA – Folsom Cordova Unified School District campuses in Rancho Cordova are now offering free meals to children this summer who may otherwise go without, thanks to a collaborative program with the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA)

The effort to feed hungry children in the community is part of the USDA’s  “Seamless Summer” Feeding Option Meal Program. The initiative ensures that all children ages 2 to 18 can enjoy healthy meals at no charge with no qualifications or paperwork required during the summer months. Check out these photos of children enjoying nutritious meals at Cordova Villa and Cordova Gardens Elementary Schools. This program isn’t just about filling stomachs, it’s about fostering a sense of community and ensuring that every child has the opportunity to thrive.

“I’m a mom and I know it’s important for kids to eat healthy. I make sure to put out healthy food every day,” Maryam Manaseek, FCUSD Food Services Department, Rancho Cordova Elementary School said.

From now until July 26, breakfast is served Monday to Friday from 8:00 am to 8:45 am, while lunch is provided from 11:45 am to 12:45 pm. It’s a schedule designed to accommodate busy summer days and hungry bellies.

“It’s great to see the children smile. After they eat they are happy and off to do something with a full belly,” Christine Rizzuto, FCUSD Food Services Department said.

Several FCUSD schools throughout Rancho Cordova are participating in the program, including Cordova Gardens Elementary School, Cordova Villa Elementary School, Cordova Meadows Elementary School, Navigator Elementary School, Peter J. Shields Elementary School, Rancho Cordova Elementary School, White Rock Elementary School, and Mills Middle School. These schools not only serve as dining spots but also double up as cooling centers, providing relief for families during the scorching summer heat.

“It feels rewarding to know you’re feeding and taking care of your community,” Rizzuto said.

Join us to ensure your children have access to nutritious meals all summer long! Spread the word and let’s make this summer healthy and bright for all children. For more details, visit the FCUSD Food Services webpage by clicking HERE.
