Metro, Folsom firefighters respond to late night blaze
Six local residents have been displaced after a late night fire destroyed much of their Orangevale home late Saturday night The incident required response from both the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District as well as the Folsom Fire Department.
Shortly after 11:30 p.m. Saturday night, multiple units were dispatched to a reported structure fire on the 8700 block of Mellowdawn Way in Orangevale. Upon first arrival, firefighters were faced with a structure, approximately 1120 square feet in size that was well involved in flames.
All occupants of the structure were able to evacuate the home safely prior to the arrival of fire crews. Firefighters established water supply and made an aggressive attack on the blaze of a primary home that suffered major damage to its living area.
An adjacent home that was exposed to the intense flames was also damaged in the incident. According to Metro Fire reports the secondary home’s damage was described as moderate.
After knocking down the active fire and gaining full access to the home, firefighters discovered that one cat had perished in the fire.
According to dispatch records 15 different units responded to the fire between working units from Metro and Folsom. Responding units also included two battalion chiefs, one medic unit, an arson unit and units from the Sacramento County Sheriffs office.
Fire crews remained on scene for approximately two hours and forty five minutes. No injuries were reported in the incident and the American Red Cross is assisting those displaced in establishing temporary shelter and needs. The cause of the fire remain under investigation as of Sunday morning.
