Sac Metro, Folsom, El Dorado Hills take top three on podium
Future firefighters from across the region gathered Saturday in El Dorado Hills to compete in the 2024 CSFA NorCal Fire Explorer Muster and Recruitment Fair, showcasing the skills they have learned on their journey to serve their communities.
Hosted by El Dorado Hills Fire and Folsom Fire at the El Dorado Hills training center, the event brought together Fire Explorers aged 14 to 20, who participate in a mentorship and career development program designed to prepare them for future careers in the fire service.
Teams from various Northern California fire departments, including El Dorado Hills Fire, Folsom Fire Department, Amador Fire, Sacramento Metro Fire, and Suisun Fire Protection District Explorer Post #33, demonstrated their abilities in a variety of events.
Competitions included the Bunker Gear & Hose Relay, Hose Drag Relay, Make and Break Relay, and the Bucket Brigade, all of which test teamwork, speed, and firefighting skills.
The Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District Explorer Team claimed first place, with Folsom Fire Explorers taking second and El Dorado Hills Fire Department Explorers finishing in third.
State Fire Marshal Daniel Berlant attended the event, addressing the impressive group of young competitors with words of valor and encouragement, underscoring the importance of their commitment to the fire service.
The event also featured several recruitment and display teams, including representatives from the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District, Sacramento Fire Department, CAL FIRE, Sacramento Regional Fire/EMS Communications Center, NCTI Northern California Training Institute, and the Firefighters Burn Institute. Attendees had the opportunity to learn more about careers in firefighting and the various organizations dedicated to community service
This annual muster not only highlights the skills of young firefighters but also serves as a platform for building connections and fostering interest in the fire service among the next generation.
