Temporary Shelter Set Up in Placerville; Forward progress stopped and 10% containment as of 7:30 p.m.

SHINGLE SPRINGS – Evacuations are underway in nearby Shingle Springs Tuesday afternoon as Cal Fire crews battle a fast-moving grass fire that has already scorched multiple vehicles and prompted urgent safety measures.

Dubbed the Bonanza Incident, the fire broke out around 2:40 p.m. in the 5200 block of Bonanza Auto Road, just off Old French Town Road. Initially reported at five acres, the blaze grew rapidly to 25 acres by 3:50 p.m., fueled by dry brush and moderate winds.

As of 4:10 p.m., the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office upgraded its earlier evacuation warning to a full evacuation order, signaling an imminent threat to public safety. The affected areas include Chablis Drive and Lumbo Road, where residents have been urged to leave immediately.

Update as of 5:45 p.m.: Evacuations Expand as Fire Grows to 63 Acres

As of 5:45 p.m. the Bonanza fire has been mapped at 63 acres, with additional mandatory evacuation orders issued extending north toward Highway 49 near Nashville. New evacuation warnings have also been added for areas east of Highway 49. Residents in the region are urged to stay alert and be prepared to leave if conditions worsen. Firefighters continue to work the perimeter, supported by ground crews and air resources.

Update as of 7:15 p.m; Forward progress stopped

As of 7:15 p.m. the fire has been mapped at 80 acres in size . Crews have stopped forward progress of the fire and managed to gain 10% containment. Approximately 2000 residents in El Dorado County are without power due the incident. CalFire has also announced it has cancelled Wednesday’s planned control burn near Prairie City SVRA due to the Bonanza fire.

The Placerville Library at 330 Fair Lane remains open as a temporary evacuation point for those displaced by the fire.
