RANCHO CORDOVA – Firefighters from the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District have been on the scene of multiple auto fires Monday afternoon and evening after broke out in an auto dismantling yard in Rancho Cordova Monday afternoon.

According to the dispatch reports, firefighters responded to the reported fire in the area of  Security Park Drive and Quicksilver Drive shortly after 3:30 p.m  Monday. Upon arrival, firefighters reported that the fire had speed to several vehicles that were actively burning. Heavy smoke billowed from the scene that could be seen for miles and shadowed the residential neighborhoods nearby.

A total of nine ground units responded to the incident, including four engines and one water tender. Sacramento copter 1 also assisted with air support and surveillance for possible spot fires in the area where there are several subdivisions nearby. 

Firefighters reportedly extinguished all active fire within one hour of arriving on the scene. Firefighters remained on the scene for just over two hours performing mop up of the blaze before the active incident was closed.

There were no reported injuries in the incident. According to Metro Fire, the cause of fire was accidental, reportedly caused by a grinder being used at the facility.
