EL DORADO HILLS- A fast response by firefighters prevented a fast burning vehicle fire from spreading to nearby vegetation Wednesday afternoon.

El Dorado Hills Fire Department  responded to the reported incident with multiple units  that was on the along Highway 50 on the East Bound on ramp of Bass Lake Road. El Dorado Hills Fire Department’s  engine 85 and engine 86 were dispatched along with one Battalion Cheif Unit.

Upon arrival, firefighters reported the engine compartment of full sized Ford pick up was engulfed in flames. The driver of the vehicle had managed to pull the vehicle over  to the shoulder of the on-ramp and evacuate safely.

Firefighters extinguished the fire.  Just  few feet away was vegetation that was already dried out from the recent high temperatures. The quick work by fire crews prevented the fire from spreading beyond the vehicle itself.  The on ramp was temporarily closed to traffic during the incident.

No injuries were reported and the El Dorado Hills Fire Department took a moment to offer safety tips to others to follow if they find themselves becoming the victim of a vehicle fire. Those tips are as follows:

1. Stay calm and pull over to a safe location.

2. Turn off the engine to prevent fuel from feeding the fire.

3. Evacuate yourself and all passengers from the vehicle quickly.

4. Move to a safe location at least 100 feet away from the vehicle.

5. Do not attempt to extinguish the fire yourself unless you’re trained and equipped to do so.

6. Call 911 immediately and provide your location and details.

“Remember, your safety is paramount in such emergencies,” said the department.
