It was the crew aboard Engine 84 of El Dorado Hills in that responded to Browns Ravine near Folsom Lake Marina after a 911 call reported and animal rescue for a wild bird that was in the the air but in some type of distress.

Upon arrival to the location, firefighters discovered a hawk hanging approximately 8-10 feet from the ground by fishing line.  At closer look, firefighters found that the hawk had a fishing lure that looked like a small fish tangled in one of its feet.

Climbing atop a truck they positioned below the struggling bird, firefighters were able to reach the scared bird and calm it by down by wrapping it in a firefighters turnout jacket. Once they had the hawk calm and secure, they were able to cut the fishing line that was tangled in its foot that appeared uninjured in the mishap before sending it off into the sky.

“Thanks to their efforts, the hawk was freed and soon after, soared back into the sky,” the department said as they shared their report of the unusual animal rescue call that had a happy ending. “We don’t just save cats from trees.”
