The City of Folsom has secured approximately $3.7 million in federal Highway Bridge Program funding to support its Bridge Preventative Maintenance Program, providing a significant boost to the city’s infrastructure.
The competitive grant, made possible through the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, will enable Folsom to complete critical bridge repairs while minimizing the financial burden on local resources. The funding will cover the design and construction of necessary repairs identified through previous bridge inspections.
Improvements will include deck treatments and joint seal repairs to enhance bridge safety, performance, and longevity. Eight bridge locations across the city will undergo repairs, with notable projects including the Folsom Lake Crossing Bridge and Lake Natoma Crossing Bridge. At Lake Natoma Crossing, additional work will involve repainting and repairing pedestrian railings along the walkways.
Bridge maintenance is a critical component of California’s infrastructure management. Across the state, local governments routinely inspect and maintain thousands of bridges to ensure public safety and structural integrity. With the added challenges of seismic activity, heavy traffic, and exposure to the elements, preventative maintenance programs like Folsom’s are essential in extending the lifespan of these structures and reducing long-term repair costs.
The total estimated cost of the project is $4.6 million. The federal grant will cover 80% of the cost, while the City of Folsom will contribute the remaining 20% as a local match. Design work is anticipated to commence in 2026, with construction scheduled for 2027. For more information on Folsom’s Public Works projects, visit www.folsom.ca.us/publicworks.
