SACRAMENTO — The latest chapter in the region’s most enduring rivalry ended much like others, with Folsom once again outlasting Oak Ridge to claim the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Division I championship. The Bulldogs defeated the Trojans 21–14 on Friday night at Hughes Stadium, adding another title to a streak of postseason success that now stretches nearly two decades. The win also extends a remarkable run in which Folsom has beaten Oak Ridge 25 straight times since 2006, including multiple playoff and championship meetings.
This matchup continued the pattern of tightly contested first halves followed by Folsom widening its advantage through disciplined drives and critical defensive plays. The Trojans stayed within reach, scoring in both the first and fourth quarters, but the Bulldogs’ consistent pressure, timely stops, and the playmaking of quarterback Ryder Lyons helped secure another step toward the state playoffs.
The game opened with Oak Ridge kicking off to Folsom. The Bulldogs began at their own 20-yard line and steadily marched the field, earning first downs at the 48 and later at the Oak Ridge 35. With just over four minutes gone, Lyons connected with Isaiah Williams for a 25-yard touchdown strike to put Folsom on the board. The extra point made it 7–0.
Oak Ridge answered with its strongest early-series push of the night. Beginning from their own 49 after Folsom’s kickoff, the Trojans worked their way inside the 5-yard line and finished the drive with a 1-yard rushing touchdown to even the score at 7–7 after the converted extra point. The teams exchanged possessions late in the first quarter, with Folsom driving to the Oak Ridge 4-yard line before the period expired.

Early in the second quarter, Lyons gave Folsom its second touchdown of the night on a 2-yard run, followed by another converted extra point to make it 14–7. Oak Ridge opened its next drive at the 20 and earned a first down at the 41 before Folsom defensive end August Dupree recorded a sack that pushed the Trojans back. The Bulldogs forced a punt and took over at their own 13.
Folsom’s next possession stalled, turning the ball over on downs at the Oak Ridge 33 with just over four minutes left in the half. Oak Ridge gained momentum with a first down at the 45 and later advanced to the Folsom 34-yard line, but the Bulldogs stopped the drive on downs again. The Trojans briefly regained the ball after intercepting a Folsom pass at the Bulldog 33, but time ran out and Folsom took a 14–7 lead into halftime.
After kicking off to start the third quarter, Folsom forced Oak Ridge into another punt and took over at their own 40-yard line. A series of steady gains moved the Bulldogs into scoring position, earning first downs at the Oak Ridge 39, 37, 27, and eventually the 6-yard line. Lyons capped the drive with a 1-yard rushing touchdown—his second of the night—to extend Folsom’s lead to 21–7 after the extra point.

Oak Ridge again took over deep in its own territory but threw an interception on the next drive. Folsom’s Jason Hill Jr. stepped in front of a pass and returned it to the Trojans’ 9-yard line with 9:14 remaining in the third quarter. Although the Bulldogs reached the 11-yard line on the ensuing possession, they ultimately turned the ball over on downs. The quarter closed with Folsom leading 21–7.
Oak Ridge opened the fourth quarter with renewed urgency, earning first downs at the 22 and 43 before quarterback Luke Taber connected with Jack Granrud on a 36-yard touchdown pass. The extra point cut the Bulldogs’ lead to 21–14 with 7 minutes remaining.

Folsom responded with a series of clock-draining possessions, grinding out first downs at the 18, 42, 46, and finally the Oak Ridge 26-yard line inside the final minute. Oak Ridge could not force another possession, and the Bulldogs ran out the clock to secure the championship.
With the 21–14 victory, Folsom advances to the CIF state qualification stage and maintains its control of one of the region’s most recognized football rivalries—one that has now produced 25 consecutive Bulldog victories over the Trojans since 2006 and five consecutive section title meetings.

Sutter tops Casa Roble of Orangevale 42–27 to end Rams’ playoff run
Casa Roble’s postseason run came to a close Saturday afternoon as the Rams fell 42–27 to Sutter in a Division playoff matchup at Sacramento City College, a game packed with big plays, momentum swings, and a relentless offensive pace by both teams. Casa Roble answered repeatedly and pushed the Huskies deep into the second half, but Sutter’s efficiency and late scoring ultimately sealed the end of the Rams’ season.
More than 1,000 fans bundled against the cold as the game opened with Sutter receiving the first possession. The Huskies marched inside the Casa Roble 30 within minutes, and quarterback Max Bringgold struck early, delivering a 26-yard touchdown pass to Braden Scritchfield for a 7–0 lead after Aiden Zwissig’s PAT.
Casa Roble answered immediately behind quarterback Aidan Lopez, who hit Karter Coss on a long pass to cross midfield, then found Tariq Lofton for another deep gain to the 16. Lopez kept the drive alive with a long run to the 3-yard line before firing a four-yard touchdown pass to Jared Alexander, tying the game 7–7 after Raul Menera’s PAT.
Sutter marched downfield again on the next series, stacking first downs to the Casa 13 and eventually capping the drive with another Bringgold-to-Scritchfield touchdown from five yards out, pushing the Huskies ahead 14–7 late in the first quarter.
Casa Roble opened the second period deep in its own end and was eventually forced to punt, giving Sutter the ball at the Rams’ 27. The Huskies needed just one play to extend their lead, as Bringgold broke free for a 15-yard rushing touchdown to make it 21–7.
The Rams responded by moving the ball with a long run from Jaylan Barcenas and a deep pass from Lopez to Kymani Burkes, advancing to the Sutter 40 and later the 29. But the drive stalled, and Casa Roble turned the ball over on downs. The defense answered a series later when Aldo Calvillo recovered a Sutter fumble at the Rams’ 37, but Casa Roble’s momentum was halted by a Sutter sack that pushed the Rams back before they were forced to punt with under a minute left in the half. Sutter carried its 21–7 advantage into the break.
Casa Roble opened the third quarter determined to rally. Lopez immediately connected with Coss on a deep strike, then lofted another long completion to Lofton at the Sutter 23. Another long pass to Lofton carried the Rams inside the 5, setting up Lopez’s seven-yard touchdown pass to Coss to make it 21–14. Casa Roble attempted an onside kick, but Sutter recovered at its own 49.
Sutter converted that short field quickly, with Bringgold punching in another rushing touchdown from 14 yards out. The PAT missed, leaving Sutter ahead 27–14. Casa Roble answered again, as Lopez fired a long pass to Felix Rodriguez and then another to Coss to the 10. Moments later, Barcenas powered into the end zone on a four-yard run. After the missed PAT, the Rams trailed 27–20 with just over two minutes left in the third quarter. Casa Roble attempted another onside kick, but Sutter secured it again.
Sutter punted to end the quarter, giving Casa Roble the ball at its own 13 entering the fourth. Lopez struck quickly with another long completion to Lofton out to the Sutter 48. But the drive stalled on downs near the 26, and Sutter took over with eight minutes to play.
Bringgold broke loose for another long run to the Casa 23, and Sutter pushed inside the 10 before Scritchfield hauled in an eight-yard touchdown pass from Bringgold. Losi Asiata then powered in the two-point conversion, widening the lead to 35–20 with six minutes left.
Barcenas answered with a long kickoff return to the Sutter 40, and Lopez immediately hit Burkes on another deep ball to the 15. Barcenas capped the drive with a 15-yard touchdown run, bringing the Rams within 35–27 after Menera’s PAT. A third onside kick attempt again failed, giving Sutter possession near midfield with five minutes remaining.
Sutter moved steadily downfield through the Casa Roble 20 before Bringgold added another score, slicing through the defense for a 20-yard touchdown run with under two minutes left to extend the lead to 42–27.
Casa Roble’s final drive ended when Bringgold intercepted a Lopez pass near the Sutter 10-yard line, sealing both the final margin and Sutter’s path forward in the playoffs.
For Casa Roble, Lopez completed a string of long downfield passes throughout the afternoon, connecting with Coss, Lofton, Burkes, Rodriguez, and Alexander during multiple scoring drives. Barcenas delivered key rushing plays, including two touchdowns and a pivotal kickoff return that set up the Rams’ final score. Defensively, the Rams produced significant moments, including sacks by Lucas Wolverton and a fumble recovery by Calvillo. The team also attempted three onside kicks in the second half, each aimed at clawing back possession in a game full of fast-moving momentum.
Despite the loss, Casa Roble’s offensive firepower and determination were on full display in a playoff game marked by energy, big plays, and a persistent fight to the finish.
