The City of Folsom will be celebrating Earth Day in a whole new family-friendly way this Saturday, April 20, with a community cleanup as well as its very own festival at City Hall.

Replacing previous events such as Folsom Trails Day and the Landscape Festival, the inaugural Folsom Earth Day celebration on Saturday falls just two days before Earth Day is recognized across the globe. Earth Day is a worldwide annual celebration dedicated to raising awareness and appreciation for the planet’s environment and advocating for environmental protection.

“We are excited to host Folsom’s inaugural Earth Day celebration, bringing the community together through fun and volunteerism,” said Christine Brainerd, Communications Director for the City of Folsom. “The event is a great way to give back to the community and contribute to a cleaner, greener future for our city.”

Saturday’s Earth Day celebration begins with a number of community cleanup projects being taken on by volunteers. Much like the efforts that previously took place on Folsom’s former Trails Day, the projects will vary from trail cleanup, trail bridge maintenance, creek cleanup, restoring areas where the shoulders of Folsom’s trails have washed out, and more.

There are still openings for volunteers for the day; they can sign up until Thursday on the city website at: www.folsom.ca.us/EarthDay. Volunteer check-in will take place between 8:30 and 9 a.m. outside of the Folsom Senior Center at 48 Natoma Street. Volunteers will need to be prepared to travel locally to the destination of their assigned volunteer project in the city once checked in.

In addition to the community projects, the city will host its Earth Day Festival near City Hall from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. At the festival, admission is free, and visitors can visit a variety of vendors and booths that are focused on programs and services that are eco-friendly. Some of the vendor booths include local businesses specializing in environmentally friendly products or services. There will be booths educating the community on things like water conservation, composting, recycling, energy efficiency, and much more.

Folsom’s Earth Day event is where celebration meets education,” added Brainerd. “The event will showcase the many programs, services, and eco-friendly practices, including water conservation, energy efficiency, composting, and recycling. Don’t miss this opportunity to celebrate our vibrant city and get involved by volunteering and learning about solutions to address environmental concerns in our community.”
