The Folsom Chamber of Commerce has officially announced its endorsements for the 2024 election, providing clear guidance on local candidates and key ballot measures. According to the Folsom Chamber of Commerce, the Chamber has endorsed a range of candidates for Folsom City Council, the Folsom-Cordova Unified School District (FCUSD) Board, California State Assembly, and U.S. Congress.
For Folsom City Council, the Chamber is endorsing Justin Raithel for District 2 and Jim Ortega for District 4. In the race for the FCUSD Board, Area 2, the endorsement goes to Dianna Laney. For higher offices, the Chamber is backing Josh Hoover for California State Assembly District 7 and Kevin Kiley for U.S. Congress representing California’s District 3.
The Chamber has also taken positions on several significant ballot measures. They have come out in opposition to Proposition 32, which proposes raising the state minimum wage from the current $16 per hour to $18 per hour by January 2026. The Chamber also opposes Proposition 33, which would allow rent control on single-family homes and houses built after February 1, 1995.
Conversely, the Chamber is in favor of Proposition 36, which aims to increase penalties for certain drug and theft crimes, particularly those involving retail theft and the distribution of fentanyl. Additionally, the Chamber supports Folsom Measure G, a proposed 1-cent sales tax that is expected to generate $29 million annually for local services such as police, fire, parks, trails, and economic development. The Chamber emphasized that this revenue would remain in Folsom, with up to 40% of the funds potentially coming from visitors who utilize local services but do not reside in the city.
