Restaurant was originally set to close today for a 90-day remodel, but waffle fry fans get bonus time to prepare
FOLSOM — Today was anticipated to be a tough one ahead for local Chick-fil-A fans as it was originally to be the last day Folsom’s favorite fast-food chicken spot would be in operation before a lengthy temporary closure. But instead of flipping the “Closed for Remodel” sign, the city’s only Chick-fil-A is still serving up spicy deluxe sandwiches and waffle fries—for now.
The Broadstone Plaza location at 2679 E. Bidwell Street was scheduled to begin a 90-day closure on September 25, as previously announced. But thanks to a timeline shift confirmed this week, that closure has been pushed back to October 9, giving local fans a welcome two-week extension to get their favorites.
Today, as Folsom Times was making an effort to get their final fill of “fil-A,” we stumbled upon breaking news of a positive nature for fellow Chick-fil-A locals as we confirmed with management that the new start date of the remodel directly with store officials, who said the additional time will help the team finalize preparations for the renovation. It’s a change that came just in time for loyal customers already mourning what was supposed to be their last chicken sandwich run.
The remodel is expected to bring major upgrades to the high-traffic location, which first opened in 2012 and is operated by Matt Crane of Crane Food Services LLC. While the restaurant has not publicly released the full scope of improvements, similar Chick-fil-A projects across the country have included refreshed dining areas, expanded drive-thru lanes, kitchen upgrades, and infrastructure updates to improve efficiency and service.
During the closure, 85 employees will be temporarily laid off. A WARN Act notice filed with the California Employment Development Department back in July outlines the temporary layoffs, which are required to be disclosed at least 60 days in advance under state law. The restaurant confirmed that all impacted employees will receive their final pay and any applicable benefits before the closure begins.
Folsom’s location remains one of the busiest in the Sacramento region, often drawing long but fast-moving drive-thru lines and a steady crowd of dine-in guests. With 10 Chick-fil-A locations in the capital area, local diners can visit alternative restaurants in Granite Bay or Rancho Cordova during the renovation period.
The remodel is expected to take approximately 90 days, with a tentative reopening window in January 2026. However, restaurant officials caution that construction timelines can shift due to unforeseen delays..plan accordingly and arrange those carpools to Cordova or Granite Bay!
