Erik’s DeliCafe originally opened its doors in Folsom late last year, but this past week, the community came out in large numbers as the longtime deli and franchise was presented with an official ribbon cutting by Choose Folsom to celebrate its success and presence in the city.

Erik’s DeliCafe opened its Folsom location in November of 2023. Founded by Erik Johnson, who was on hand for the celebration, Erik’s DeliCafe opened its very first location in Scotts Valley back in 1973.

The restaurant specializes in handmade sandwiches, salads, and soups. Over the years, Erik’s has grown to more than two dozen locations. Carley Olney is the local franchisee for the Folsom location. Prior to its opening last year, the closest location was in Roseville as the company grew to more than two dozen locations, with a strong presence across the Bay Area.

“There have been some changes since we opened in Scotts Valley in 1973, but what hasn’t changed and never will is our commitment to our customers,” says Johnson, who also shares the motto on the company’s website. “Our pledge of a warm and inviting atmosphere, and quality food served fast with friendly service is practiced in our stores every day.”

Erik’s Deli cites its success on the fact that their sandwiches are made with “high-quality meats, savory cheeses, and fresh produce.” They also take great pride in their slow-simmered and hand-crafted soups, made-to-order fresh salads, and bakery goods that are made from scratch with fresh ingredients.

Johnson was on hand for the Folsom celebration on May 1 as he joined Olney, members of the Folsom location staff, local media, city leaders, and others in the parking lot to officially partake in the company’s long-awaited ribbon-cutting celebration. Before performing the ceremonial duties, he shares some words about what was his company’s 28th location.

“30 years ago when we started to grow, I would ask people that came in the deli what they liked about us; they said they liked the employees, the atmosphere, and the food, and I came up with four words to describe our uncompromising value and today we do not deviate from these at all,” said Johnson. Johnson shared that the company works off four basic words for success. Those words include consistency, quality, service, and integrity.

“All of those are important but the most important one is integrity,” he shared. “We have a motto here that is if we are in doubt, we throw it out. My dad also always told me, don’t ever lower your quality. If you aren’t making money, raise the prices if you have to but never cut your quality.” Eriks Deli is located at 411 Blue Ravine Road in Suite 400. The eatery is open daily.
