Sixty-one individuals with students enrolled at Cordova High School and Kinney High School within the Folsom Cordova Unified School District were recently celebrated at Cordova High School for completing a transformative 9-week parent learning series and workshops conducted entirely in Spanish.
The collaboration between FCUSD and the Parent Institute for Quality Education (PIQE) offered families comprehensive support for college planning. This support encompassed guidance on GPA and A-G courses, navigating financial aid, tools for applications, understanding admission requirements, strategies for building self-esteem, and online support with digital skills training. Overall, the initiative aimed to empower families to successfully guide their children towards higher education.
This groundbreaking initiative, funded through FCUSD’s LCAP plan, actively engaged parents who received guidance and support from FCUSD Community School leads throughout the program. At the graduation ceremony, led by Liliana Valadez, Executive Director of PIQE, Dr. Sarah Koligian, FCUSD Superintendent, extended heartfelt congratulations and words of encouragement to the attending families, acknowledging their dedication and commitment to their children’s education and future.
FCUSD’s latest round of PIQE workshops for this school year began this week, focusing on engaging families from Mills Middle School. Those with children in elementary school, who wish to gain insight into what lies ahead for them, are still welcome to sign up and join next week, according to the district.
The Mills Hybrid PIQE series offers the flexibility of attending either in person or via Zoom. These sessions take place every Wednesday, starting this week, and culminate with a graduation ceremony on May 15th, running from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. To secure your spot and receive the attendance link, email Veronica Cruz-Lane, FCUSD Community School Facilitator at Mills Middle School, at vlane@fcusd.org.
