One taken into custody, lockdown lifted by 12:35 p.m.
The Folsom Cordova Unified School District office was placed on lockdown for a period of time Friday afternoon as law enforcement responded to reports of a man carrying what was believed to be a rifle in the area.
According to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office, deputies and officers were dispatched to the vicinity of Birkmont Drive around 11:55 am Friday after receiving reports of a man walking through a field between the district office and a nearby Mormon church.
Authorities on scene determined that the man was apparently carrying what was actually a pellet gun, authorities confirmed he did not point the weapon at anyone and was seen carrying it through the area.
According to school district officials, the suspect was located and taken into police custody and the lockdown was lifted by 12:35 p.m.
“The Folsom Cordova Unified School Education Services Center (ESC) went into a lockdown when safety staff noticed an individual holding what looked like a rifle. Law enforcement was notified and responded immediately to secure the area,” reads a statement issued by the school district.
The district said that all staff followed proper safety protocols during the lockdown and that all staff are safe.
“We appreciate the quick response of our law enforcement partners and FCUSD colleagues for following all safety precautions,” the district added.
