While most families are soaking up the last days of summer, the real hustle is already underway across the Folsom Cordova Unified School District. Behind every freshly polished hallway and every planned lesson, an entire network of educators, staff, and support teams is working around the clock to make sure Thursday, August 7 marks a smooth and inspiring start to the new school year.
With just days to go before classrooms once again fill with students, FCUSD staff and leadership have been hard at work to ensure a strong return for more than 20 campuses across the district. From big-picture planning to behind-the-scenes work, preparations for the 2025–26 school year have touched every corner of the district.
Earlier this week, principals from every school gathered at the District Office for an annual leadership summit designed to align instructional goals and operational strategies. While the agenda included essential updates and planning sessions, it was the message from Superintendent Erik Swanson and his leadership team that set the tone for the year ahead: “Connectedness matters.” Building supportive, student-centered school communities remains at the core of the district’s mission, and that philosophy will guide classroom culture, campus climate, and staff collaboration across the board.

Meanwhile, Vista del Lago High School hosted a two-day welcome for the district’s newest educators on July 31 and August 1. The new teacher orientation was filled with energy, purpose, and a strong sense of community. Incoming teachers were introduced to FCUSD’s values of collaboration and student-focused growth and were equipped with tools and insights to support a successful first year. The event offered a powerful message that from the very first day, they are part of a team committed to student success and professional excellence.

And while leaders and educators prepare in meetings and trainings, another group has been working quietly—but no less diligently—across every school site. Maintenance and Operations teams have spent the summer preparing campuses to be clean, safe, and welcoming. From power-washing walkways and deep-cleaning classrooms to refreshing landscaping and replacing air filters, these efforts ensure that facilities are ready for the new year.
“We’re grateful for the year-round commitment of our site support teams, who help create welcoming environments where learning can thrive,” the district shared. “Their efforts this summer are setting the stage for a strong start to the new year. Join us in thanking the staff who keep our campuses running smoothly all year long!”

Whether it’s a newly assembled classroom, a polished school entryway, or a dedicated group of educators ready to greet students at the door, all signs point to a district ready to begin a year of achievement, connection, and growth. With final preparations underway, FCUSD is eager to welcome students, families, and staff back on August 7.
