In a stride towards environmental sustainability, the Folsom Cordova Unified School District (FCUSD) has recently incorporated four state-of-the-art electric school buses into its transportation fleet, heralding a greener future for students commuting to schools in Rancho Cordova.
Each of these cutting-edge electric buses, devoid of emissions, is capable of accommodating between 10 to 15 students. Among the beneficiaries of this eco-friendly initiative are students from Peter J. Shields Elementary School, Mitchell Middle School, Cordova High School, and Walnutwood High School.
Funded by the Sacramento Metropolitan Air Quality Management District, these zero-emission buses, with an individual value of $400,000, represent a concerted effort to mitigate the environmental impact of traditional diesel-powered buses. The transition to electric propulsion is anticipated to significantly reduce emissions, thereby fostering an improvement in air quality and nurturing a healthier environment for the community at large.
Moreover, beyond the ecological benefits, the introduction of electric buses is poised to yield numerous practical advantages. By eliminating reliance on fossil fuels, the FCUSD expects to curtail operating expenses over time, streamline maintenance efforts, and enhance the overall efficiency of its transportation infrastructure. Additionally, students can look forward to quieter and more comfortable rides, contributing to a conducive learning environment during their daily commutes.
The district shared the news of the new additions to its fleet, appropriately at the same time the nation celebrates Earth Day this week.
