Dozens of high school seniors and their families from across the Folsom Cordova Unified School District (FCUSD) attended a unique “Cash for College” financial aid workshop recently at Cordova High School. This free event provided essential resources and expert guidance to help students take the first step toward achieving their college dreams.

The workshop, open to all FCUSD seniors and their families, focused on supporting the completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and the California Dream Act Application (CADAA). Completing these applications is a critical step in securing financial aid for higher education, and the event simplified the process for attendees.

More than 20 dedicated volunteers from the California Student Opportunity and Access Program (Cal-SOAP), the California Student Aid Commission (CSAC), and California State University, Sacramento, contributed to the success of the event. They assisted over 70 attendees, including students and families from Cordova, Vista del Lago, and Folsom High Schools. The workshop had a significant impact, as every participating student completed their financial aid applications, and parents successfully submitted their portions as well.

To ensure accessibility for families from diverse backgrounds, the event offered translation services in Armenian, Farsi, Russian, and Spanish. Attendees received personalized guidance as volunteers and support staff walked them through each step of the financial aid application process.
