Public encouraged to attend in person or tune in to livestream broadcast for informative event.

Folsom residents will have the opportunity to get to know each of the candidates that will be on the ballot for open seats on Folsom City Council Monday evening in a special Candidate Forum presented by Choose Folsom at Folsom Lake College.  The event if free to attend in person, but will also be viewable to a vast audience and those who cannot attended as it will be live streamed by Folsom Times on multiple platforms in an effort to provide Folsom’s more than 84,000 residents the opportunity to learn more about those running to represent their city. 

Monday’s event will begin at 5:30 p.m. and continued until 7 p.m. Residents are encouraged to attend in person to the event that will take place in the Community Room (FL-20) of Folsom Lake College.  Attendance is free to the event as well an parking is complimentary. Those attending the forum must park in Parking Lot A of Folsom Lake College to take advantage of the free parking arranged by Choose Folsom.

Monday’s event will be moderated by two well-known media personalities and residents of Folsom.  Adam Frick, co-founder of Folsom Times will join former Sacramento Sheriff and KFBK radio personality John McGinnis on stage to present the six candidates that are running to fill two open seats in two of Folsom City Council’s districts this year. The evening is sure to be informative and engaging as each candidate will have the opportunity to provide a 90 second introducing prior to the presentation of a series of different questions and topics to the candidates that are of concern for the Folsom community ahead.

For those unable to attend in person, the event will be livestreamed to Folsom Times YouTube Live channelHERE at https://www.youtube.com/@folsomtimes/streams which is also accessible at www.folsomtimes.com. Once the event begins, the official livestream link and broadcast will also go out to multiple platforms including the Folsom Times Facebook, Choose Folsom, the Folsom Chamber of Commerce and more. The presentation will also be available to watch on demand at the multiple locations thereafter.

The official nomination period closed for the Folsom City Council race last Friday. The terms of Councilmembers YK Chalamcherla and Rosario Rodriguez, who were both elected to four-year, at-large terms in 2020, will end in November 2024. At the November 2024 election, Councilmembers representing District 2 and District 4 will be elected to four-year terms.   There will no longer be at-large Councilmembers after the upcoming election. 

Following Friday’s closing of nominations for the race, three candidates will appear on the ballot for each of the two districts with open seats. In District 2, candidates include Hla Elkhatib, Justin Raithel and Dustin Silva.  The candidates that will appear on the official ballot for Distict 4 will include Gul Khan, Barbara Leary and Jim Ortega.

The terms of current Folsom City councilmembers Mike Kozlowski (District 1), Sarah Aquino (District 3), and Anna Rohrbough (District 5), who were elected to four-year terms in 2022, will continue until November 2026. At the November 2026 election, Councilmembers representing District 1, District 3, and District 5 will be elected to four-year terms.  In this case, all three incumbents will be eligible to run again based on their residency within their respective districts.
