Firefighters from the Folsom Fire Department and the Folsom Police Department, with assistance from the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District responded to a structure fire in a residential home located on the 900 block of Bidwell St. near Historic Folsom Tuesday evening.
At approximately 5:09 p.m. crews responded to a report of visible flames coming from a residence. While enroute to the fire, crews were updated that the neighbors can hear animal cries from the home.
Firefighters from the Folsom Fire Department arrived to find heavy smoke and fire coming from the front door and windows of a single-story home. Thick smoke extended all the way across the surrounding streets. Fire crews made search and rescue the highest priority by aggressively attacking the fire so they could make access into the home. Fire personnel extinguished the fire within 5 minutes of the first arriving fire engine.
Crews found one dog that was limp, lethargic, and sustained burns. They rescued the dog and provided immediate emergency care with a “pet oxygen mask”. The dog’s owner was not on scene. A neighbor offered to take the dog to an emergency vet and the dog is expected to survive. The entire living space of the home sustained fire and heavy smoke damage.
A total of four engine companies, two truck companies, one paramedic ambulance, two chief officers along with several Folsom Police patrol officers were dispatched to the scene.
