Backpacks were packed, smiles were wide, and hearts were full this past Friday as the community of Folsom came together in a big way at the Back 2 School Extravaganza hosted by Mount Olive Lutheran Church.

The event served 371 children from 151 families, transforming the church campus into a hub of joy, generosity, and support as families prepared for the upcoming school year. What unfolded wasn’t just a school supply giveaway—it was a heartwarming reminder of the power of community.

Through the collective efforts of the Twin Lakes Food Bank, local churches, businesses, organizations, and donors, students walked away with not only essential school supplies but also a sense of excitement and hope for what lies ahead. From the moment families arrived, they were met with warm welcomes, cheers, and an atmosphere filled with celebration and care.

One of the highlights was the lineup of free services and fun experiences designed to prepare and uplift each student. Children received fresh haircuts courtesy of Maribou Salon and Lucky’s Barbershop, enjoyed Chick-fil-A sandwiches hand-delivered by the beloved Chick-fil-A Cow, and took home even more surprises thanks to community partner Micron.

Tricks Gymnastics energized the crowd with fun activities for kids, while Ruby’s Books gifted brand-new books to spark a love of reading. The parking lot buzzed with excitement as kids explored a Folsom Waste and Recycling truck, chatted with Folsom Police officers giving out prizes, and received health check-ups and hygiene kits to kick off the school year in good shape.

Community partners such as Anthem shared helpful insurance resources, and Folsom’s Hope provided information on its after-school programs, reinforcing the support system that exists year-round for local families.

And in a moment that had kids squealing with joy, Spider-Man made a surprise appearance—only to find himself in an impromptu dance battle with the Chick-fil-A Cow. The playful showdown had the crowd cheering and laughing, a perfect finale to a day already filled with magic.

None of it would have been possible without the community’s heartfelt support. From donations through the “Sponsor a Student” campaign to volunteer time, supply drives, and hands-on help during the event, Folsom residents showed up in every possible way to care for their neighbors.

For those who attended, it was more than an event. It was a statement: that Folsom stands strong when it comes to lifting one another up.
