Twin Lakes Food Bank is gearing up to host its annual Back 2 School Extravaganza, and thanks to generous community support, more than $7,000 has been raised to ensure hundreds of local students in need start the new school year with confidence.

Set for August 1, the event is open to registered guests of the food bank and will serve more than 300 under-resourced students from Pre-K through 12th grade. Each student will receive a new backpack, grade-appropriate school supplies, back-to-school groceries, hygiene kits, books, gift cards, and other essentials designed to help them begin the school year ready and equipped.

“Back 2 School is perhaps everyone’s favorite event,” said Lindsay Olson, Guest Engagement Coordinator at Twin Lakes Food Bank. “Our volunteers and staff have been working tirelessly behind the scenes to create a day full of memories, school supplies, and fun for our guests and their families. I am thrilled to have both new and faithful community partners volunteering their time and creativity.”

A strong network of local businesses and organizations will be on hand for the event, including Micron, Ruby’s Books, Tricks Gymnastics, Chick-Fil-A, and the Folsom Police Department. Representatives from Anthem, Folsom’s Hope, and the Folsom Cordova Unified School District will also be present to offer information and connect families to resources as the school year begins.

Community generosity has played a major role in this year’s success. Local churches and businesses have donated over 400 brand-new backpacks to ensure that every student can select one that suits them best. Lakeside Church’s Blitz youth campers raised more than $2,000 to help purchase additional school supplies and snacks. When Twin Lakes issued a public call for help on June 18 to raise $5,000 to complete the remaining supply needs, donors responded in less than a week—contributing $5,135 to fill the final backpacks.

“Each year, the community’s support is overwhelming,” said Lisa Tuter, Executive Director of Twin Lakes Food Bank. “Folsom residents truly love each other and have a heart for our vulnerable neighbors. This event aims to show each student that they are loved and valuable. This year, when we are serving more local children and teenagers than ever before, your support is making a difference in hundreds of lives.”

As the number of families facing food insecurity continues to climb, especially amid rising food costs, Twin Lakes Food Bank has seen a steady increase in children and families seeking monthly grocery assistance. Events like the Back 2 School Extravaganza are just one way the organization helps ensure these families are supported in more ways than one.
