The Folsom Lake College women’s basketball team delivered a commanding performance Friday night, rolling past Chabot College 89-46 to advance to the third round of the playoffs. The Falcons will now travel to San Jose City College on March 8 with their sights set on a trip to the state tournament.
Despite a competitive first quarter, where Folsom Lake clung to an 18-16 lead, the Falcons quickly took control in the second quarter, outscoring Chabot 22-11 to head into halftime with a comfortable 40-27 advantage.
The second half was all Folsom Lake, as the team erupted for 29 points in the third quarter while holding Chabot to just 10. By the time the fourth quarter began, the game was all but decided. The Falcons finished strong, limiting Chabot to just nine points in the final frame while adding 20 of their own to secure the lopsided victory.
Leading the charge for Folsom Lake was Athena Brombacher, who recorded 18 points, nine rebounds, and six assists. Gianna Darte was a force from beyond the arc, knocking down four three-pointers on her way to 16 points and eight rebounds. Ursula Chen added 13 points, including three triples, while Jasmine Clee provided a boost off the bench with 12 points and nine rebounds.
The Falcons dominated the boards, out-rebounding Chabot 59-47, which allowed them to control the pace of the game. Their defense was just as dominant, holding Chabot to only 19 points in the second half while forcing key turnovers that led to transition baskets.
With their latest win, Folsom Lake moves one step closer to its ultimate goal of a state championship. The Falcons will face a tough test in San Jose City College on March 8, but with their momentum building and a deep roster at their disposal, they remain a formidable contender in the postseason.
