Sacramento Regional Transit (SacRT) light rail service returned to its regular schedule Tuesday morning after a collision at the Blue Ravine Road crossing in Folsom caused lengthy delays for much of the day Monday.
The incident occurred around 9:20 a.m. Monday, when a car drove through the crossing gate and struck the side of a passing light rail train. According to SacRT spokesperson Jessica Gonzalez, the crossing gate sustained “major damage” and required emergency repairs, prompting the temporary suspension of train service in the area.
To keep riders moving, SacRT established a bus bridge between the Historic Folsom and Sunrise stations throughout the day. Officials encouraged riders to monitor the Alert SacRT app for live updates until full rail service resumed.
The Folsom Police Department reported that the male driver of the vehicle was transported to the hospital with minor injuries. Two people were on board the train at the time—a transit ambassador and the train operator—but neither was injured.
Police said there was no evidence that drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash. Local traffic also experienced delays in the aftermath of the incident while first responders cleared the scene and transit crews evaluated the damage.
SacRT confirmed service had returned to normal operations by Tuesday morning following the completion of necessary repairs.
