Prairie City Stadium is sure to be filled with enough energy to power the city Saturday night as the Folsom Bulldogs will take to their own field to face off for the opportunity to advance to another state championship contest.

Last Friday, the Bulldogs clinched another Division I Sac Joaquin Section after coming out on top of a slugfest of a game against their Highway 50 corridor rival Oak Ridge beneath the lights of Hughes Stadium in Sacramento. After times of trailing, ties and rallies, the Bulldogs won the game 34-27. It marked the 21st time Folsom has defeated Oak Ridge.

Now, the 11-2 Bulldogs take to their home field and face Pittsburg Friday night in one final reginal playoff game that will determine which team will travel to Southern California next week to compete for the CIF State 1-A championship title.

The last time Folsom faced Pittsburg was in 2022, a game they won 23-15. One year prior to that in their first match up they also walked away with a 38-17 victory.

Coming into the game with the momentum of a fourth quarter rally that secured their win over the Trojans last week, Folsom is looking to pave its way to another state contest on its home field Friday night in what is expected to be a battle of the best.  With a shot at the state title at stake, Folsom feels strong going into Saturday night.

“Pittsburg is very aggressive and physical and will probably play some man on us, so we’ll have to win some man-on-man battles,” said Folsom Head Coach Paul Doherty, following last Friday’s win.  “They are more athletic, and fast than technically sound. I feel good where we are at because I feel we can play a couple different brands of football and still be successful.”

If the Bulldogs can secure the win in front of their hometown crowd Saturday night, they will face whoever wins this week’s game between St. Augustine and St. Bonaventure for the A-1 state title the following week.
