A Sacramento man was arrested early Thursday after Folsom police responded to a report of mail theft from a residential cluster mailbox in the Horseshoe Glen neighborhood, an incident that also prompted an ongoing investigation into a possible accomplice who fled the area.
Just before 3:30 a.m. on Feb. 6, officers with the Folsom Police Department were dispatched to the 1900 block of Horseshoe Glen Circle following a report from a resident who observed a subject stealing mail from a community cluster mailbox. Upon arriving in the area, officers canvassed the neighborhood based on the suspect description provided by the reporting party.
During their search, officers located the cluster mailbox and found it unlocked, open and completely emptied of its contents, according to police. A short time later, officers contacted an individual matching the description provided by the witness and continued their investigation.
Police determined that the individual was on felony probation at the time of the incident for prior offenses that included possession of counterfeit items, identity theft, possession of counterfeit financial instruments and grand theft. Investigators said those offenses included possession of keys commonly used to access cluster mailboxes.
Officers found the suspect in possession of a bag containing stolen mail, loose mail containing personal identifying information, and keys believed to be forged and used to gain access to cluster mailboxes, police said.
The suspect was identified as Christopher Palma of Sacramento. He was arrested and booked on charges of possession of burglary tools, identity theft, possession of personal identifying information belonging to 10 or more victims, and mail theft.

While continuing to canvass the area for possible accomplices, officers observed a black Audi sedan leaving the neighborhood at a high rate of speed, according to police. Officers were able to obtain the vehicle’s license plate number and said follow-up investigation will be conducted to identify the driver and determine whether the vehicle was connected to the incident.
“We commend our patrol officers for their professionalism, attention to detail, and commitment to keeping our community safe. We also thank the vigilant community member who reported the suspicious activity,” the department said in a statement.
The department also encouraged residents to report suspicious activity immediately by calling 911 for emergencies or by contacting the Folsom Police Department’s non-emergency line at 916-461-6400, option #1.
