After a standoff that lasted several hours on Thurs. Feb 15, Folsom Police arrested a 31-year-old man who reportedly attacked an elderly man near Livermore Park before barricading himself inside his home nearby. 

At approximately 8:15 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 15, Folsom Police responded to reports of an 80-year-old man being attacked near Livermore Park in Folsom.  According to Folsom Police,  the victim was reportedly knocked down and kicked in the head by the suspect before the suspect fled the scene. Officers responded to a home that was reportedly the residence of the suspect on Corrigan Court nearby.

Upon arrival to the home, officers determined that the suspect was in the residence, but was refusing to come out and began threatening to shoot police, according to the department’s report. After securing the area, officers called for the Folsom SWAT and Crisis Negotiations Teams. The responding officers attempted to get the suspect to surrender for several hours. During the standoff, officers were able to see that the suspect had armed himself with various weapons, including suspected firearms that later turned out to be replicas. The teams used teargas to eventually get the suspect to surrender at approximately 1:30pm when he was taken into custody.

According to Folsom Police, the victim suffered minor injuries, He was treated and released from an area hospital and recovering at home. The suspect has been identified as Nashad Hisham Hamedeh, 31, of Folsom. He was booked into the Sacramento County Jail on charges of  battery, elder abuse, resisting police and violation of probation. At this time, jail records do not show bail information as it is still being processed.
