Candice Hucik’s first story introduces a mischievous pup with a big message for kids

FOLSOM – Sometimes the biggest adventures begin with the smallest steps. For one Folsom mother, that step was putting pen to paper to capture the innocence of childhood questions and the boundless spirit of a little dog with a lot to teach.

Local wife and mother of two, Candice Hucik, is preparing to release her first children’s book this fall, a project born out of both faith and family life. Titled Charlie the Bestest Boy, the heartwarming story follows the adventures of Charlie, a tiny dog with silky fur, sparkling brown eyes, and an irresistible knack for getting into mischief.

At the center of the story is Ellie, Charlie’s owner, who reminds him through every muddy pawprint and toppled mess that her love never wavers. The playful dynamic between the pair delivers a message for children ages 5 to 8: that true love is patient, kind, forgiving, and steadfast, even when mistakes happen.

For Hucik, the book reflects more than just a lighthearted story about a puppy. “I was first inspired by the big, thoughtful questions my daughter asked when we started reading the Bible together,” she explained. “I created engaging characters and fun situations to help explain the meaning behind scripture.”

That inspiration grew into a series of lessons woven through Charlie’s adventures—lessons that parallel the way God loves His children and the way people are called to love others. With humor and heart, the book aims to give young readers a tangible way to understand unconditional love.

Charlie the Bestest Boy is expected to be available in paperback on Amazon by November 2025, and Hucik hopes it will be the first of many in a series featuring Charlie’s endearing escapades.

Her journey to publishing her debut book was also a leap of faith in her own life. After leaving the corporate world, Hucik chose to devote her time to raising her two children and pursuing her passion for writing. Away from her desk, she can often be found coloring with her kids, playing dinosaurs on the living room floor, or serving at her local church as a worship leader and volunteer in children’s ministry.

“This book represents a dream I’ve carried with me for years,” she said. “It’s my hope and prayer that Charlie’s story will bring joy to families and help children better understand the depth of love in their lives.”

Charlie the Bestest Boy is schedule to be available on Amazon starting Nov. 3. More details are available on her website. at www.candicehucik.com, and readers can follow her journey on Facebook and Instagram as well.
