Folsom firefighters responded to their first significant vegetation fire of the year Saturday afternoon, quickly containing a blaze that broke out near Silberhorn Drive and Montmagny Court and prompted a rapid response due to its proximity to nearby homes.

The Folsom Fire Department was dispatched at approximately 3:20 p.m. after a 911 caller reported a vegetation fire near a bike trail in a residential neighborhood. Firefighters arrived to find about half an acre burning on both sides of the trail with a moderate rate of spread. Access was made directly from the bike trail as crews worked swiftly to keep the flames from reaching any structures.

A total of five units were dispatched to the incident, including Engine 337, Engine 339, Engine 38, Battalion Chief 15, and Medic 37. Additional support units from the California Office of Emergency Services were also requested. Firefighters faced challenging terrain but were able to gain control of the fire from multiple angles.

As of 3:45 p.m., firefighters reported they were making very good progress and had nearly knocked down all active flames. Crews remained on scene extinguishing hot spots in an area reportedly filled with heavy brush, according to radio traffic from incident command. The working fire was reported to be approximately an acre in size at the time forward progress was stopped. An additional spot fire was also reported nearby and addressed behind a residence on Crail Court.
