City offers certification and pathway to summer jobs at Steve Miklos Aquatic Center
Make a splash this summer by turning time at the pool into a meaningful and in-demand job, as the City of Folsom opens enrollment for its 2026 lifeguard training program at the Steve Miklos Aquatic Center.
City recreation officials are now accepting participants for upcoming Ellis Lifeguard Training courses, the required certification for anyone hoping to work as a lifeguard at the city’s primary aquatic facility. The program offers a direct pathway into summer employment while preparing participants with the lifesaving skills needed to protect swimmers and respond to emergencies in a fast-paced aquatic environment.
Beyond certification, the training serves as an early introduction to working with the city’s aquatics team. Officials note the course functions as an informal interview process, allowing instructors and supervisors to observe candidates’ reliability, professionalism and ability to work as part of a team. Strong performers may be invited to continue on as part of the summer lifeguard staff, making the program an important first step for teens and young adults interested in public service or future careers in recreation and safety.
The Ellis Lifeguard Training provides comprehensive instruction in CPR, first aid and professional lifeguarding techniques. Upon successful completion, participants earn an Ellis lifeguard license, which is required for employment at the Steve Miklos Aquatic Center during the busy summer swim season.
The course fee is $225 and includes all required online pre-course materials. To accommodate schedules, the city is offering two separate training sessions.
The February session is scheduled for February 25 and February 27 through March 1, with evening instruction on Wednesday from 5:30 to 8 p.m. and Friday from 5:30 to 9 p.m., followed by full-day training on Saturday and Sunday from 9:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. A second session will be held March 18 and March 20 through March 22, following the same schedule format.
Participants must be at least 15 years old to enroll. Space in each session is limited, and city officials encourage interested applicants to register early.
Registration is available through the city’s WebTrac system, and additional information can be found on the City of Folsom’s aquatics webpage athttps://www.folsom.ca.us/government/parks-recreation/aquaticsor by calling the Steve Miklos Aquatic Center at 916-461-6640.
As Folsom prepares for another active summer at its pools, the lifeguard training program continues to play a critical role in ensuring safety while offering young residents a chance to gain valuable skills, responsibility and hands-on experience serving the community.
