The Folsom Police Department has been awarded a $125,000 grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) to enhance its traffic enforcement and education programs aimed at reducing road injuries and fatalities. The program is set to run through September 2025.
“We are grateful to receive this grant, which will strengthen our traffic enforcement efforts and improve road safety,” said Sergeant Tim Galovich. “By increasing enforcement of traffic laws and focusing on high-risk areas, we aim to reduce dangerous driving behaviors, prevent crashes, and make our roads safer for everyone.”
The funding will support a variety of initiatives, including DUI checkpoints and patrols targeting impaired drivers, as well as high-visibility operations enforcing California’s hands-free cell phone law. Efforts will also focus on addressing unsafe driving behaviors that endanger pedestrians and cyclists, along with cracking down on violations that often lead to crashes, such as speeding, failure to yield, running red lights or stop signs, and improper turning or lane changes.
Additionally, the department plans to conduct community education on traffic safety topics like distracted driving, impaired driving, and bicycle and pedestrian safety. Collaborative enforcement efforts with neighboring agencies and officer training in sobriety testing and drug recognition are also key components of the program.
Funding for the initiative is provided by OTS through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. This grant underscores Folsom’s ongoing commitment to reducing dangerous driving and improving safety on local roads.
