Folsom Police had a busy holiday weekend with numerous calls, one of which took several hours to revolve when an armed man refuses to come down from the rooftop of a Folsom gas station.

The incident began on Saturday, July 1 when dispatchers received a call from the 76 Gas Station in the area of Iron Point Road near Folsom Blvd. The caller reported that there was a man on the roof of the building, refusing to come down after being asked by employees.

Officers responded to the scene and attempted to talk to the man, but he reportedly had a large metal pipe and was swinging it, hitting the building. The suspect also had turned off the air conditioning units for the business.

According to a report released today by the Folsom Police Department, officers repeatedly asked the man to come off the roof, but he refused. Since he was armed with the metal pipe and acting aggressive, officers deployed a drone to observe him safely from the ground.

Officers negotiated at great length with the man to get him to come off the roof voluntarily, with no success. At one point, the subject, later identified as Domingo Rodriguez, 30, threatened to jump off of the roof.

Folsom Fire and Sacramento Metro Fire Departments responded to assist officers in safely accessing the roof.  Once they gained safe access, members of the Critical Incident Negotiation Team had also responded. After several hours, the officers were successful in their negotiations.

Rodriguez came off the roof willingly and was detained by officers . Officers evaluated the man and determined he did not meet the criteria for a mental health hold and it was determined that he was a known transient in the area. Rodriguez was booked into the Sacramento County Jail on charges that include resisting arrest and trespassing.

“We’re proud of our officers, who worked in the heat for hours to reach a peaceful conclusion that met the business owner’s needs and protected the safety of the arrested suspect, “ reads a statement from Folsom Police.
