Residents at a Folsom apartment complex are on edge as police investigate two attempted break-ins by a masked suspect caught on camera. The incidents occurred Monday evening at the Folsom Ranch Apartments on Folsom Ranch Drive, just off Greenback Lane. In one case, a man attempted to break down a young woman’s door, an alarming event captured on a Ring doorbell camera.

Resident Laura Youmans, who witnessed the attempted break-in, described the suspect as “a guy wearing white Jordan sneakers, a black ski mask, a blue Dodgers hat, black pants, and a purple Lakers jacket.”

She said the suspect was first seen prowling near the leasing office around 6 p.m. without a mask. “Then, about 30 minutes later, he was on the other side of the complex, turning the knob and wildly banging on my neighbor’s door,” Youmans said. “She packed up and left after calling police, putting her Ring camera up, and warning me.”

Ring camera footage shared by the Folsom Ranch apartment resident shows the suspect cutting a lock box off the railing of the apartment upon his return to the scene.

After the initial police response, Youmans said the suspect returned around 9:21 p.m. with bolt cutters and proceeded to cut the lockbox off the railing, which contained a key, likely for maintenance access. “Now he has the key to my apartment,” she wrote on social media. “Please call Folsom PD if you see him.”

Folsom police confirmed they were called at the time of both incidents and are actively investigating. The apartment complex’s security team and on-call maintenance staff have also been notified.

Following the incident, images were shared on social media, prompting local businesses to come forward with surveillance footage. Employees at House of Mules and Jamba Juice, both located south of the complex off Folsom Boulevard near Blue Ravine Road, reported that a man matching the suspect’s description had attempted to pass a counterfeit bill. Other apartment residents have also reported seeing the suspect in different areas of the complex.

The Folsom Police Department is investigating both incidents and working to determine whether they are connected. Officers have increased patrols in the area and urge residents to report any suspicious activity or provide additional information.

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Folsom Police Department.

Footage shared from local businesses show a suspect matching that of the attempted break in who was attempting to pass counterfeit bills the same day.
