FOLSOM – A multi-agency compliance operation led by the Folsom Police Department on Wednesday resulted in two arrests after officers conducted checks on local registered sex offenders as part of the city’s ongoing public-safety efforts.

Detectives organized the December 5 operation alongside officers and agents from the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, U.S. Federal Courts Probation, and Sacramento County Probation. In total, the teams checked on 27 registered sex offenders living in the region. Officials also deployed a specialized detection dog trained to locate hidden electronic devices, a tool that has become increasingly valuable during home searches involving offenders under supervision.

Eight homes subject to probation or parole search terms were inspected. During the checks, officers identified one individual who was out of compliance.

Police arrested Thomas Anckner, 38, of Folsom, after he was found in possession of methamphetamine and fentanyl. In a separate case, detectives arrested Gary Smith, 74, of Placerville, on a warrant for annoying or molesting a minor, a violation of Penal Code 647.6(a). The warrant stemmed from an incident inside a Folsom store in March and followed what police described as a lengthy investigation and review of the case.

In a statement, the department emphasized the purpose of these periodic operations and encouraged residents to remain informed about safety resources in their neighborhoods. “These routine compliance checks are part of the Police Department’s ongoing efforts to support community safety and ensure individuals subject to registration requirements are following state law,” the department shared in a statement. “California law requires registered sex offenders to be listed on the Megan’s Law website, which is accessible to the public at meganslaw.ca.gov. You can search by name, address, or zip code to view information about offenders in your neighborhood. We encourage residents to use this resource to stay informed about their community’s safety.”

The department said additional compliance sweeps will continue as part of its ongoing multi-agency strategy to monitor individuals required to register under state law.
