The Folsom Police Department continues to combat the ongoing issue of organized retail theft in the city. On Thursday, officers made a fresh arrest of a 54-year-old man who had struck several retailers before officers apprehended him.
Jamal Williams, 54, of Sacramento was taken into custody by Folsom Police Officers on Thursday afternoon. Williams was apprehended after the Folsom Police Department’s Problem Oriented Policing (POP) team was alerted that Williams was in the city.
According to a Folsom Police report, the department’s POP officers, teamed with Folsom Police Special Investigation detectives, organized and conducted surveillance on Williams. When he was observed entering a large Folsom retailer, officers continued their observations where he was caught committing a new theft.
Once William’s was in custody, Folsom Police Officers conducted a search of the suspect’s vehicle. Nearly two dozen pairs of new shoes that were stolen from various retailers were found in the vehicle along with electronic products and other apparel. Williams was arrested and booked into the Sacramento County Jail on charges including PC 490.4(A), a felony for organized retail theft acting in concert with one or more persons. He was also charges with PC 466, a misdemeanor, for the possession of burglary tools.
As of Friday morning, Williams remained in custody of the Sacramento County Jail with bail set at $10,000.00 according to Sacramento County Jail records. He is scheduled to appear in Sacramento Superior Court Department 62 at 3:00 p.m. on Sept. 9.
Previous arrest records for Williams indicated a prior arrest in May of this year on shoplifting charges in Fresno as well as a warrant arrest in January.
