FOLSOM—The Folsom Police Department bid farewell to one of its most dedicated officers Thursday afternoon as Officer Daren Prociw walked out of the station for the last time, closing a career totally more than 30 years built on service, compassion, and commitment to the community he called home.
Just after 3 p.m., officers lined the front steps of the police station in a traditional gauntlet, raising their hands in salute as Prociw emerged from the doors for his final shift’s end. Members of the Folsom Fire Department and city staff joined in, a gesture of respect that reflected not just his years in uniform, but the lasting connections he forged across the city.
The traditional ceremony, known better as a “gauntlet” in law enforcement terms, reached its poignant moment when Interim Police Chief Randy Ulibarri prompted Prociw over the radio for his final sign-off. The responding central dispatcher’s voice carried a message across the network for all to hear and reflect upon, noting the many milestones and accolades of his career.
“Today, we honor Officer Daren Prociw, whose career of service spans more than three decades,” they shared. “Officer Prociw’s career is one of commitment, compassion, and community. We thank him for his years of dedication and service to the City of Folsom.”

Prociw’s path in law enforcement began in 1989 as a Sacramento County Sheriff Explorer Cadet. From there, he joined the Folsom Police Department as an Explorer, then a Reserve Officer, and in 1999, became a full-time officer. Over the years, he served in key roles including Field Training Officer, Mounted Patrol Officer, Emergency Vehicle Operations Course Instructor, Crisis Intervention Team Officer, and as one of the original members of the department’s Honor Guard.

His service was marked by numerous awards and commendations, including the Bronze Star, Community Policing and Service Awards, and the Unit Citation Award. He was named Reserve Officer of the Year and earned recognition for guiding the department’s Santa Sleigh project for more than two decades, a holiday tradition that touched countless Folsom families.
“Beyond his day-to-day service, Prociw was a respected voice within the Folsom Police Officers’ Association, where he held leadership roles as President, Vice President, and board member,” the department shared in its over-the-air send off.
As he made his final walk through the gauntlet, applause echoed across the entry of the department, not just for an officer completing his duty, but for a man who gave more than three decades of his life to protecting and uplifting his community.
