According to a press release from the Folsom Police Department, several residents have received calls from a number appearing to be associated with the Folsom Police Department. The callers claim that there is a warrant out for the recipient’s arrest.

“We don’t call and give you a heads up on a warrant,” said the Folsom Police Department in a statement.

The department also emphasized that they do not accept any form of payment to resolve warrants, including gift cards, GreenDot cards, or Bitcoin.

“Scammers can spoof practically any phone number, so your Caller ID may display the call as coming from someone it is not,” the department explained.

Folsom Police is advising residents who receive such calls to simply hang up without engaging in conversation. They also urged individuals not to provide any personal information, such as name, date of birth, or address, and to refrain from providing any form of payment to the callers. The department asks residents to spread awareness of the scam to prevent further victimization within the community.

Anyone who believes they may have been targeted by this scam is encouraged to report it to local authorities.
