The Folsom Sea Otters are celebrating more than just fast swims this summer — they are marking 40 years of tradition, achievement, and community.
Since 1985, the Sea Otters have introduced generations of local athletes to the sport of swimming while building a culture of teamwork and family. This milestone season showcased the best of that legacy, proving that the club remains one of the most influential youth programs in the region.
At the Suburban Swim League Championships, 85 percent of Sea Otter swimmers clocked personal best times — a remarkable accomplishment that reflected countless hours of dedication and training. The season finale at the Meet of Champions in Roseville brought even more cause for celebration as the Sea Otters secured an impressive third-place finish against top regional competition.
For Head Coach Mike Chavez, the results tell only part of the story. What matters most, he says, is the culture being built within the team.
“Long-term success comes when swimmers, families, and coaches share a clear vision and core values,” said Chavez. “We’re creating an environment where unity, positivity, and high performance thrive — and where every swimmer feels like part of a family.”
As registration for the 2026 season approaches, the Sea Otters continue to welcome new families to be part of the next chapter in this four-decade journey. With record-breaking performances in the pool and a culture of community beyond it, the Sea Otters are proving that their best years may be yet to come.

The Folsom Sea Otters swim team is a non-profit, recreational and competitive, parent-run organization with approximately 325 to 385 swimmers ranging in age from 4 to 18. Any swimmer within this age range as of June 15 is welcome to sign up, provided they can pass a water safety test and swim one length of the pool (25 yards) unassisted with their face in the water. Practices are held at the Folsom Aquatic Center, and younger athletes can join the Junior Otters pre-competition program. For details on this program, families can email info@folsomseaotters.com.
The team competes in the Suburban Swim League, which includes eight teams and more than 1,800 swimmers. The 2025 season will run from April 22 through July 12, featuring a Time Trials meet, seven dual meets, and a championship meet where all league teams gather for a three-day competition July 18–20.
The philosophy of the Folsom Sea Otters Swim Team is to provide a positive, team-oriented learning environment where each swimmer can achieve their potential by developing and refining necessary skills while having fun. Guided by its coaching staff, Board of Directors, and parent volunteers, the program prioritizes skill development, sportsmanship, and community spirit. The Folsom Sea Otters are also proud members of the Folsom Athletic Association.
