Registration is now open for 2024 citywide contest that will offer over $3000 in prizes from Folsom Times and various local businesses

It was three years ago that the City of Folsom started its annual city wide Holiday Lights Contest that has grown in popularity as residents got in the holiday spirit to decorate in competition for the coveted “winners sign” in different categories. This year, the contest is back and bigger than ever as Folsom Times has once again joined forces with the City of Folsom to sponsor the event and is adding numerous valuable prizes from different businesses throughout the community as well.

From fine dining to bowling, shopping, gardening, health and beauty services and more, a menagerie of “prize packs” for the various winners of this year’s contest have been assembled for the various winners of this fun and spirited holiday contest that is welcoming free entries from residents and business owners that are ready to light up their city this holiday season.  Altogether, Folsom Times will present over $3000 in prizes will be awarded in this year’s contest. 

“The City of Folsom has done a great job bringing this contest to life the past two years. We wanted to make it even better and in challenging economic times, last year we also a collection of valued prizes that seemed to be fitting,” said Adam Frick and Bill Sullivan, founders of Folsom Times.  “In addition to those purchased by Folsom Times, our area business community was very eager to team with us and join the effort far beyond our expectations so we’re looking forward to lighting up Folsom again this year even brighter than before. We appreciate the opportunity to partner with the city for this event.”

There is no charge to enter the contest. After December 13, members of the Folsom City Council will be traveling the streets of Folsom to view and then judge this year’s contest to determine the different winners. 

How to register your residence or business:

  • Deadline to register your home or business is Friday, December 13 at 5 p.m.
  • Contestants must register for the contest to be judged and can do so easily and learn more online RIGHT HERE.   

The contest categories for 2024 are as follows:

  • Holly Jolly Residence – Best overall residence. 
  • Clark Griswold – Best use of holiday lights (residential). 
  • Hollywood Christmas – Best use of theme and/or fictional characters (residential).
  • Merry and Bright Business – Festive commercial business display (includes window painting).
  • Illuminate the Block – Best multi-house display.

Over $3000 in prizes for 2024:
All winners will receive a sign announcing their achievement from the City of Folsom.  Folsom Times will be providing a collection of community cheer packages containing a variety of gifts from area businesses that are detailed below.

The winners of the respective categories will also be named and featured on www.folsomtimes.com once they have been determined by the city officials, they will also be recognized at a Folsom City Council Meeting along with Folsom Times staff, in the City of Folsom E-Newsletter and various city social media platforms.

Prizes for each of the individual residence winners will include the following (with more being added daily):

Dining at Bacchus House Bistro; Gift Certificates from Green Acres, The Apex Entertainment Venue at Red Hawk Casino, Scott’s Seafood Roundhouse, Dorotheas Shoppe and Snooks Candies in Historic Folsom, Dining at Riley’s on Sutter, Complimentary skating packages from the Folsom Holiday Ice Rink, Wine from Crystal Basin Cellars, Gift certificates from Dave and Buster’s at The Palladio, FLB Entertainment Center and more to come!

Each of the homes for the block party will receive a $50 dining gift certificate to Visconti’s Ristorante (up to 12 homes).

The winner of the merry and bright business category receives a business spotlight/advertising package from Folsom Times and Folsom TV.
