The much talked about Johnny Cash Trail will have its very first feature transform from a concept into reality next week. The City of Folsom will unveil the first art installation on the Johnny Cash Trail on Thursday, Nov. 21, at 3 p.m.
The installation, a 7-foot-tall bronze guitar pick titled Cash’s Pick No. 1, will be placed at the lower entrance of the trail near the Rainbow Bridge in the Folsom Historic District. Funded by federal and private sources, the piece was designed and created by local artist Adan Romo of Sacramento-based Romo Studios. The guitar pick symbolizes the beginning of Johnny Cash’s iconic career, which started with a single pick, and marks the trailhead of the Johnny Cash Trail.
The Johnny Cash Trail, completed on Oct. 14, 2017, celebrates and honors the legacy of Johnny Cash, his music, and his connection to Folsom. The 2.75-mile Class I bike and pedestrian trail stretches west toward the Folsom Historic District and east toward the Folsom Lake Crossing Trail. It features two scenic bridges inspired by the landscape and architecture of nearby Folsom State Prison. The trail has become a popular destination for outdoor recreation, offering opportunities for walking, biking, and wildlife viewing amidst stunning scenery.
The art dedication ceremony will include remarks from Folsom City Council members, city officials, donors, and community partners. The event is open to the public.
