Thursday road closures expected

The Folsom Turkey Trot, an annual 10K run and 5K run/walk, will require closures of various Folsom roads Thanksgiving morning. The event benefits the Twin Lakes Food Bank, the Folsom Athletic Association’s Never in Our Town Youth Scholarship Program, and the Johnny Cash Trail Project.

The 10K run will begin at 8:50 a.m. and the 5K run/walk will begin at 9:10 a.m. Both events start at Folsom Lion’s Park, 403 Stafford Street, near the Folsom Public Library and Folsom City Zoo Sanctuary. The courses are on Folsom trails, bridges, and streets, including Natoma, Sutter, Reading, and Leidesdorff streets. There will be various road closures on multiple streets and rolling road closures to allow traffic in or out. Police officers and course monitors will guide traffic and detour signs will be marked.

Event Beneficiaries:

The Folsom Turkey Trot is more than a race; it’s an opportunity to support local organizations that make a significant impact in the community. Proceeds from the event benefit:

  • Twin Lakes Food Bank: Serving over 2,500 individuals monthly in the Folsom, Granite Bay, and El Dorado Hills communities, the food bank provides fresh and nutritious food, enough to make 20 meals a month for a family of four.
  • Youth Assistance Fund – “Never In Our Town”: Established by the Folsom Athletic Association, this scholarship program offers financial assistance to Folsom youth residents desiring to participate in community youth sports leagues but are constrained by financial limitations. 
  • Folsom’s Trail System: The event also supports the maintenance and development of Folsom’s extensive trail system, including the Johnny Cash Trail, enhancing recreational opportunities for residents and visitors alike.
