Units  from the Folsom Fire Department, Folsom Police and California State Parks have been dispatched to a water rescue near along the American River Parkway near Historic Folsom Sunday afternoon. 

At 2:40 p.m., multiple units were dispatched to the area of the 2890 block of the American River Parkway for reports of a paddle boarder in need of assistance. The patient is reportedly in the water as well as two dogs that are in the water near them. The area is reportedly upriver from the Rainbow Bridge near the area that borders Folsom Prison property and near the bridge that spans the Johnny Cash Trail.

Folsom’s Boat 35 and 36 have both been dispatched to the area along either two Folsom engine crews and a medic unit.

Update 3:03 p.m. Dispatchers are in phone contact with the person in need of medical assistance who states they are in a creek off of the river area with two dogs. Units are having difficulty locating the person and have requested a helicopter support to assist with the search.

Update 3:10 p.m. First responders have reported to in isn’t command they can hear the person calling for help and are continuing to access the remote area by boat and foot.

Update: 3:14 p.m: helicopter has arrived over the area.

Update: 3:16 p..m. units have reached the location, the paddle boarder has communicated they do not need any medical assistance but need help getting back out of the area they have travelled into. Helicopter has been released.

Update: 3:20 p.m. party and their dogs have been guided to an area along the shoreline where they have accessed the bike trail and are able to walk out on their own. Folsom fire is releasing rescue units.
