Students from Folsom High School and Vista del Lago High School wrapped up their March demonstrating academic excellence and perseverance during the 46th Annual California Academic Decathlon in Santa Clara, where they competed among the state’s brightest minds.

Facing off against 53 high school teams from across California, both schools earned top marks in their respective divisions. Folsom High School’s Academic Decathlon team captured an impressive third-place finish in Division 2, while Vista del Lago High School followed close behind with a fourth-place finish in Division 3. Divisions are assigned based on school size to ensure fair and balanced competition.

Over the course of three days, students were challenged with seven multiple-choice exams covering subjects like literature, mathematics, science, economics, art, music, and social science. Participants also competed in an essay contest, gave prepared and impromptu speeches, and faced judges in a formal interview setting. The event concluded with the popular Super Quiz, a fast-paced relay that tests team collaboration and subject knowledge under pressure.

Folsom High School walked away with 21 individual medals earned across various disciplines. Vista del Lago made an equally strong impression, with each member of its team bringing home a medal—an impressive feat that underscores the depth of talent and preparation of both schools.

“This event is about more than just academics,” said an FCUSD representative. “It builds teamwork, communication, and a true sense of achievement. These students exemplify what it means to strive for excellence.”

The Folsom Cordova Unified School District recognized the teams’ achievements with pride, applauding the efforts of the students, coaches, and families who contributed to their success.
