The Folsom Planning Commission is scheduled to review plans for a major remodel proposed by Walmart Inc. to expand its longtime location on at 1018 Riley Street in Folsom. The commission is expected to review the extensive plans this month.

According to proposed plans submitted by the company, much of the remodel will be focused to improve and expand its online shopping pick up experience and adapt the store to become a Walmart “Store of the Future.”  The plans include the construction of an additional 3,500-square-foot addition planned for the southwest corner of its building that will be dedicated to its online grocery shopping service. The additional plans also include improvements to the parking area to accommodate the customer pickup spaces and allow for more in person parking spaces, including disabled in the front of the store.

It is proposed to renovate the majority of the stores current interior, including its checkout area,pickup and delivery capabilities, an updated pharmacy, a new grab-and-go section, an expanded deli and produce department and many community-focused food and merchandise offerings, and renovated apparel section. According to company officials, the proposed remodel and construction would take place in the Spring of 2025 once approved and permitted. The store plans to remain open during the project.

The Folsom Planning Commision is expected to discuss the proposed plans at its June 18 meeting at City Hall.
