For those who love the magic of the holidays and the charm of animals, the Folsom City Zoo Sanctuary offers the perfect combination with its local favorite Wild Nights & Holiday Lights event. Now in its 14th year, this annual tradition transforms the zoo sanctuary into a dazzling winter wonderland, inviting families to celebrate the season while supporting the zoo’s cherished animal residents. The event runs from 5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Dec. 6-8, 12-15, and 18-22, promising an unforgettable holiday experience for visitors of all ages.
Thousands of twinkling lights, sparkling ornaments, and festive displays create an enchanting atmosphere throughout the zoo. Highlights include an illuminated forest of beautifully decorated trees, cheerful caroling performances by local musicians, and special appearances by Santa Paws, the zoo’s beloved bear mascot. Guests can also enjoy nighttime rides aboard the Folsom Valley Railway miniature train, adding an extra touch of magic to their evening.
The event also offers a unique opportunity for animal lovers to observe some of the zoo’s residents who are more active after dark. Knowledgeable zoo docents will be available to share fascinating facts and answer questions about the animals, creating an educational and memorable experience. To complete the festivities, a variety of food trucks will be on-site, serving delicious seasonal treats.
Admission is $10 per person, with no charge for children under two, and train rides are $6 per person, also free for children under two. Tickets must be purchased online in advance, as no tickets will be sold at the event. All proceeds benefit the Folsom City Zoo Sanctuary, and tickets are non-refundable unless the event is canceled due to inclement weather.
