Just a few weeks after opening their new second location, the owners Baker’s Dozen Donuts, a Folsom business that has been serving up sweet treats for over three decades, has been presented a special honor by Folsom Resident and California Assemblyman Josh Hoover. On Monday, Hoover named the local baker the August Small Business  of the month California 7th District. 
“Excited to announce Baker’s Dozen Donuts as our Small Business of the Month for August 2024. They just opened a brand new second location at 2700 East Bidwell St #300 and you can still visit them at their original location at 707 East Bidwell St #1. This month they celebrated 35 years serving the Folsom community,” Hoover shared as he announced the honor and paid a visit to the present its owners with the award. 

“Baker’s Dozen has been owned by Richard and Sopha Tep since 1989. With deep roots in cooking and a passion for sharing Khmer traditions from their homeland of Cambodia, Richard and Sopha enjoy bringing joy and culinary delights to Folsom. They truly have some of the best donuts around and have cultivated a wonderful family-friendly atmosphere at each of their locations,” added Hoover. 

After being in business locally with a single location for 35 years, the company celebrated in grand fashion earlier this month with the grand opening of a new location brand-new in Broadstone Marketplace.  Today. the shop continues to serve up their tasty delights at 717 East Bidwell Street, where they have been since 1989 as well as on the other side of East Bidwell where they are closer to the communities of Broadstone, Empire Ranch, and others, at 2700 E Bidwell Street, Suite 300. The recently opened second location is a neighbor to Visconti’s, Sacramento Pizza Company, Land Ocean, Pita Place, Taiko Sushi and more in the same section of the center.

Richard and Sopha, took over the operations of the shop in 2018, keeping the business in the family that was long operated by Sopha’s aunt Cindy before the new generation took over day-to-day operations.

The couple are natives of Cambodia who moved to the United States in 2006. Prior to serving donut lovers in Folsom daily, Rathanac honed his donut-making skills in Newport Beach at the well-known Seaside Donut Bakery.

Not only does Baker’s Dozen sell boxes of donuts to residents and businesses every day, but they also custom-make each one, from traditional plain old-fashioned donuts to tasty buttermilk bars, maple bars, and specialties like cronuts, fruit-flavored eclairs, cream puffs, and much more. Throughout the seasons, you can find many custom-decorated donuts to fit various themes, from football season to Halloween, Christmas, Valentine’s Day, and more.
