FOLSOM – A familiar breakfast spot on East Bidwell Street is getting a fresh start. Big Apple Bagels, located at 711 East Bidwell Street, is reopening under new ownership as longtime restaurant professional Andy Tang takes the helm with plans to restore the shop as a beloved local staple.
Tang purchased the Folsom location from Smithers Foods of EDH LLC, the group that also owns the Big Apple Bagels shop in El Dorado Hills. He has spent recent weeks training at the El Dorado Hills store to learn the company’s core operations, and he’ll begin training his new Folsom team this week in preparation for a soft opening early next week — or potentially even sooner.
Tang brings more than a decade of experience in restaurant and retail leadership, and he says he is focused on elevating customer service, consistency, and community connection. His goal is to make Big Apple Bagels in Folsom “a welcoming community favorite once again.”
“When customers walk back through the door, I want them to feel the difference immediately,” Tang shared. “We’re bringing fresh energy, great service, and a renewed commitment to quality.”
The Folsom shop will also debut a new Rewards App, giving customers an easy way to earn free food and order online — a feature not previously available at this location.
Big Apple Bagels is one of the few bagel concepts in the country that makes its bagels from scratch daily on-site. Along with 18 varieties of bagels and a full lineup of house-made cream cheeses, the menu includes breakfast sandwiches, deli sandwiches, My Favorite Muffin brand muffins, Brewster’s coffee beverages, and fruit smoothies served in a casual and comfortable setting.
The transition marks a new chapter for BAB Systems, Inc., the company behind Big Apple Bagels, My Favorite Muffin, and Brewster’s Coffee, as the Folsom and El Dorado Hills stores move forward with renewed energy under Tang’s ownership.
