The Folsom Lake College women’s basketball team has done it again, advancing to the CCCAA State Championships’ Elite 8 for the second consecutive year .
The lady Falcons are now now for Southern California following an impressive 78-53 victory over San Jose City College Saturday. This is the first time in history the team has advanced to Elite 8 over two consecutive seasons.
The Falcons wasted no time establishing their dominance to secure the win that secures their trip Saturday, exploding for 35 points in the first quarter while holding their opponents to just 14. That early lead set the tone for the rest of the game, as FLC controlled both ends of the floor to punch their ticket to the next round.
Athena Brombacher led the charge with an all-around performance, finishing with 18 points, nine rebounds, and six assists. Gianna Darte added 16 points and eight rebounds, while Emily Collins contributed 12 points and four assists. Mia Thompson provided a strong presence inside, securing a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. The Falcons shot an efficient 48.6% from the field while dominating the paint with 42 points. On defense, they held San Jose City College to 34.5% shooting and forced 22 turnovers, further cementing their control of the game.
With the win, Folsom Lake advances to face the tournament’s top seed from the south, Orange Coast College, in the quarterfinals on Friday, March 14, at 1:00 PM at Mt. San Antonio College.
